6 Kalma BASICS OF FAITH
1. Pehla 1st Kalimah Tayyibah (Purity)
The First Kalma: Kalma Tayyab
Kalma Tayyab, the first of the Six Kalma, holds profound meaning for Muslims worldwide. It translates to “La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah” and signifies the belief in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). By reciting and reflecting upon Kalma Tayyab, Muslims affirm their faith in Allah’s oneness and the finality of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) message. لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
Laa ilaaha il-lal-laahu, Muham-madur-rasuu-lul-laah.
There is none worthy of worship except Allah. Muhammad (Sal-lal-laahu alayhi wa sal lam) is Allah’s Messenger. (MUSLIM)
اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں۔ محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) اللہ کے رسول ہیں۔ (مسلم)
2. second Kalma Shahadah (Testimony)
The Second Kalma: Kalma Shahadah
The second Kalma, Kalma Shahadah, encapsulates the core declaration of faith in Islam. Its translation, “Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh,” emphasizes the belief in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). By proclaiming this declaration, Muslims openly express their faith and allegiance to Islam. Kalma Shahadah serves as a reminder that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the final messenger of Allah, and his teachings are to be followed wholeheartedly. اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لَّآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَہٗ لَاشَرِيْكَ لَہٗ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهٗ وَرَسُولُہٗ
Aschhadu al-laa ilaaha il-lal-laahu wa aschhadu an-na Muham-madan abduhuu wa rasuuluh.
I testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah and I testify that Muhammad (sal-lal-laahu alayhi wa sal-lam) is Allah’s servant and messenger. (BUKHARI)
میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں اور میں گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ محمد (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) اللہ کے بندے اور رسول ہیں۔ (بخاری)
3. Third 3th Kalimah Tamjied (Glorification)
The Third Kalma: Kalma Tamjeed
Kalma Tamjeed, the third Kalma, directs Muslims to appreciate and glorify the attributes of Allah. With its translation of “Subhan Allahi Wal Hamdulillahi Wa La ilaha Illallah Allahu Akbar,” this Kalma serves as a means of acknowledging and praising Allah’s greatness and His sovereignty over all creation. By reciting Kalma Tamjeed, Muslims express their gratitude for Allah’s blessings and recognize His infinite power and wisdom. It encourages believers to reflect on the magnificence of Allah’s creation and develop a deep sense of awe and appreciation for His divine attributes.
سُبْحَان اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُلِلّهِ وَلا إِلهَ إِلّااللّهُ وَاللّهُ أكْبَرُ وَلا حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيْم
Subhaanal-laahi wal-hamdu lil-laahi, wa laa ilaaha il-lal-laahu wal-laahu akbar, wa laa haula wa laa quw-wata il-laa bil-laahil ‘aliy-yil ‘athiem.
Glory is for Allah and praise for Allah. There is none worthy of worship but Allah, and Allah is the greatest. There is neither power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Mighty. (TIRMIDHI)
الله پاک ہے اور تمام تعریفیں الله کے لئے ہیں. اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں اور اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں گناہوں سے بچنے کی طاقت اور نیک کام کرنے کی قوّت صرف الله ہی کی طرف سے ہے جو عالی شان اور عظمت والا ہے (ترمذی)

The Fourth Kalma: Kalma Tauheed
Kalma Tauheed, the fourth Kalma, highlights the concept of Tauheed, which refers to the belief in the oneness of Allah. The translation, “La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shay’in qadeer,” reinforces the notion that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. By reciting Kalma Tauheed, Muslims affirm their belief in the absolute oneness and uniqueness of Allah, rejecting all forms of polytheism or associating partners with Him. This Kalma serves as a reminder to direct all acts of worship and devotion solely towards Allah, recognizing His supreme authority over all aspects of existence.
لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهٗ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهٗ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْىٖ وَ يُمِيْتُ وَ هُوَحَیٌّ لَّا يَمُوْتُ اَبَدًا اَبَدًاؕ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِؕ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُؕ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شیْ ٍٔ قَدِیْرٌؕ
Laa ilaaha il-lal-laahu wahdahuu laa scharieka lahuu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyie wa yumietu, biyadihil khayru, wa huwa ‘alaa kul-li schay-in qadeer.
There is none worthy of worship except Allah Who is Alone (and) Who has no partner. For Him is the Kingdom. And for Him is the Praise. He gives life and acuses death. And He is Alive. He will not die, never, ever. Possessor of Majesty and Reverence. In His hand is the goodness. And He is the goodness. And He is on everything powerful. (TIRMIDHI)
اللہ کے سوا کوئی عبادت کے لائق نہیں جو اکیلا ہے (اور) جس کا کوئی شریک نہیں۔ اسی کی بادشاہی ہے اور تمام تعریفیں اسی کے لیے ہیں۔ وہی زندگی دیتا ہے اور وہی موت دیتا ہے۔ وہ ہمیشہ کے لئے زندہ ہے جو مریگا نہیں وہ عظمت اور بزرگی والا ہے بہتری اسی کے ہاتھ میں ہے. اور وہ ہر چیز پر قدر ہے. (ترمذی)
5. Fifth 5th Kalma (Astaghfar)The words of Seeking Forgiveness (Astaghfar)
The Fifth Kalma: Kalma Astaghfar
Kalma Astaghfar, the fifth Kalma, encourages believers to seek forgiveness from Allah. Its translation, “Astaghfirullah Rabbi Min Kulli Zambin Adnabtuhu Amadan Aw Khata’an Sirran Aw Alaniyyan Wa Atubu Ilaihi Minaz Zambi Allazi A’lamu Wa Minaz Zambi Allazi La A’lamu, Innaka Anta Allamul Ghuyubi Wa Sattaarul Uyubi Wa Ghaffaruz Zunoobi Wala Haawla Wala Quwwata Illa Billahil Aliyyil Adheem,” urges individuals to acknowledge their sins, repent sincerely, and seek forgiveness from Allah, the Most Merciful. By reciting Kalma Astaghfar, Muslims demonstrate their humility and recognition of their shortcomings, seeking spiritual purification and redemption. It serves as a reminder of the importance of self-reflection and seeking forgiveness as integral aspects of a sincere and fulfilling relationship with Allah.
اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهِ رَبِّىْ مِنْ كُلِِّ ذَنْۢبٍ اَذْنَبْتُهٗ عَمَدًا اَوْ خَطَا ًٔ سِرًّا اَوْ عَلَانِيَةً وَّاَتُوْبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنَ الذَّنْۢبِ الَّذِیْٓ اَعْلَمُ وَ مِنَ الذَّنْۢبِ الَّذِىْ لَآ اَعْلَمُ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوْبِ وَ سَتَّارُ الْعُيُوْبِ و َغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوْبِ وَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِىِِّ الْعَظِيْمِؕ
Astaghfirullaha Rabbi Min Kulli Zambin AznabtuhuAmadan Aao Khat An Sirran Aao Alaniatan-Wa Atoobuilaihe Minaz Zambil Lazee AalamuWa Minaz Zambil Lazee La Aalamuinnaka Anta Allamul Ghuyoobi Wa Sattaarul Oyobi Wa Ghaffaruz Zunoobi Wala Haola Wala Quwwata illa billahil AliYil Azeem.
I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly, and I turn towards Him from the sin that I know and from the sin that I do not know. Certainly You, You (are) the knower of the hidden things and the Concealer (of) the mistakes and the Forgiver (of) the sins. And (there is) no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
الہی میں تیری پناہ مانگتا ہوں اس بات سے کہ کسی چیز کو تیرا شریک بناؤں اورمجھے اس کا علم ہواور میں معافی مانگتا ہوں تجھ سے اس گناہ سے جس کا علم مجھے نہیں میں نے اس سے توبہ کی اور بیزار ہوا کفر سے اور شرک سے اور جھوٹ سے اور غیبت سے اور بدعت سے اور چغلی سے اور بے حیائی کے کاموں سے اور تہمت لگانے سے اور باقی ہر قسم کی نافرمانیوں سے اور میں کہتا ہوں کے الله کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں حضرت محمّد ص الله کے رسول ہیں
6. Kalima Radde Kufr means: The words of Rejecting Disbelief-Refutation of disbelief
The Sixth Kalma: Kalma Radde Kufr
The sixth and final Kalma, Kalma Radde Kufr, stands as a clear rejection of disbelief and false ideologies. Its translation, “Allah Humma Inni A’udhu Bika Min An Ushrika Bika Shay’an Wa Ana A’lamu Bihi Wa Astaghfiruka Lima La A’lamu Bihi Tubtu Anhu Wata Barra’tu Mina Al Kufri Wash Shirki Wal Kizbi Wal Gheebati Wal Bida’ati Wan Nameemati Wal Fawahishi Wal Bohani,” affirms the believer’s commitment to Islam and the rejection of disbelief in all its forms. By reciting Kalma Radde Kufr, Muslims reaffirm their faith and distance themselves from any false beliefs or practices contrary to the teachings of Islam. It serves as a shield against deviation
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّیْٓ اَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ اَنْ اُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَّاَنَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ وَ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَآ اَعْلَمُ بِهٖ تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَ تَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَ الشِّرْكِ وَ الْكِذْبِ وَ الْغِيْبَةِ وَ الْبِدْعَةِ وَ النَّمِيْمَةِ وَ الْفَوَاحِشِ وَ الْبُهْتَانِ وَ الْمَعَاصِىْ كُلِِّهَا وَ اَسْلَمْتُ وَ اَقُوْلُ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللهِؕ
Al-laahum-ma in-nie a’uudhu bika min an uschrika bika schay an wa anna a’lamu bihie wa astaghfiruka limaa laa a’lamu bihie tubtu ‘anhu wa tabar-ra’tu minal kufri wasch-schirki wal kidhbi wal-ma’aasie kul-lihaa aslamtu wa aamantu wa aquulu Laa
O Allah! Certainly I seek protection with You from, That I associate partner with You anything and I know it. And I seek forgiveness from You for that I do not know it. I repended from it and I made myself free from disbelief and polytheism and the falsehood and the back-biting and the innovation and the tell-tales and the bad deeds and the blame and the disobedience, all of them. And I submit and I say, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of ALLAH.
